CEUs: 2

Speaker(s): Bill Perkins

This course is designed to increase agents’ awareness of the exposures that the existence of data creates. We’ll touch on Identity Theft issues and also discuss risk management methods to reduce cyber exposures.
Given the material covered, the participants will be able to:

  • Identify the exposures arising from data storage
  • Explain the regulations that impact required procedures
  • Describe ways to avoid identity theft
  • Describe the industry responses to provide coverage for data breach and ID theft
Develop risk management solutions to a specific operation’s exposures

Bill graduated from Loyola University of the South and later joined a family-owned insurance agency in Orlando, Florida. After more than 12 years as a commercial insurance sales agent, he was hired by the Florida Association of Insurance Agents (FAIA) in 1993 as a commercial lines instructor. In addition to teaching the principal commercial insurance disciplines of business auto, commercial general liability, property, and workers’ compensation, Bill has interests in longshore and maritime employment coverage issues. He was also responsible for FAIA's annual Legislative Roundup sessions. Bill formerly served on the Florida Appeals Board of the National Council on Compensation Insurance (NCCI), the Technical Affairs Committee of the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of America (IIABA), and was a member of the Mid America Insurance Conference. Additionally, he was the Florida coordinator of ABEN, the Agent and Broker Education Network. In September 2014, Mr. Perkins joined Liberty Mutual as the Midwest region's senior training specialist and later incorporated the company’s Northeast region into his teaching responsibilities. His duties involve providing commercial insurance training and education for the states of Connecticut, the Dakotas, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New Hampshire, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, Vermont and Wisconsin. Mr. Perkins has earned the Accredited Advisor in Insurance (AAI), the Associate in Risk Management (ARM), and Construction Risk and Insurance Specialist (CRIS) designations.
