Claim Reserves and Reserving
CEUs: 1

Speaker(s): Philip Sibilia

Have you ever wondered how a claim file reserve is established? This is a non-actuarial look at claim file reserves and the reserving process. Topics include types of reserves, the difference between a reserve evaluation and a settlement evaluation and, the importance of claim file reserves. Insight into some of the more common claim reserving issues will be provided. This course may help with client calls inquiring about specific claims that may be impacting their loss experience, and, will also provide some insurance company perspective when discussing claim reserves with the claim organization.

Phil Sibilia holds years of insurance claims expertise from his time with OneBeacon Insurance and its legacy companies, Commercial Union Insurance and CGU Insurance. He has broad experience in claims management for personal, commercial and specialty lines of business. Currently, he is the owner of MBRD Consulting. Prior to this, he was Senior Vice President, Head of Claims at OneBeacon. Overall he has 38 years property/casualty industry experience.

He has held various positions in claims including adjuster, claim supervisor, field claim manager, home office examiner, home office manager, assistant vice-president, vice president and senior vice-president that make him uniquely capable of understanding both front-lines and high level claims issues. His experience includes personal, commercial and specialty lines of business for automobile, property, workers compensation and general liability claims types.

Following his separation from OneBeacon Insurance he has been engaged by clients for due diligence exercises, training and education, quality control, operational reviews and expert witness testimony.
