Underwriting Criteria

  • States available: AL, CT, DE, IL, IN, KA, KY, LA, MA, MD, ME, MI, NC, NH, NJ,
    NY State (will NOT write business in NYC), RI, TN, TX, VA, VT and PA
  • All job classes and phraseologies must be eligible
  • No laboratories
  • No Religious Organizations
  • No Airport Exposure
  • No placement services or temporary agencies
  • No seasonal operations
  • No 24-Hour operations
  • No Boat Rentals
  • No Recycling Centers
  • No Convenience Stores
Reasons for Rejection
The following are the most common reasons for rejection in the program:
  • At least one class code is not eligible (see approved class codes)
  • Less than 3 years field experience for construction class code start-ups, other than construction start-ups are considered.
  • Unfavorable loss experience, debit mod or insurance score
  • Answers to the general information questions are not acceptable
Effective Date Information

The proposed effective date must be the date that the application was received at the Number One Insurance Agency, Inc. or a date thereafter.
 

Underwriting Criteria
  • Office/Retail/Service/Miscellaneous Classes – No Requirement for years in business.
  • Construction/Manufacturing Classes – Minimum of 3 Years
    • Require “Master” Electrician / Plumber
  • Part-time employees are eligible.
  • Maximum of 20 employees per location
  • All insured’s using an Independent Contractor, must retain certificates of insurance.
  • No risks located in buildings over 25 stories tall
  • No 24 hour operations
  • No Workers under 16 years or over 70 years of age
  • No Insured sponsoring athletic teams in which employees participate
  • No owned or chartered aircraft
  • No employee group transportation or vanpool arrangements
  • No lifting or loading/unloading of heavy objects
  • No employee leasing companies or temporary-help agencies
Coverage Restrictions
  • No coverage for employees based outside of MA [under 180 days/year is acceptable]
  • No Federal Employers Liability Act
  • No Longshoreman’s and Harbor Workers Compensation Act
  • No Outer Continental Shelf Land Act
  • No Defense Bases Act
  • Non-Appropriated Fund Instrumentalities Act
  • Maritime coverage including the Jones Act
  • Foreign Voluntary Compensation with or without Reparation

Underwriting Criteria

  • Start-up operations must have 2 years of background and experience
  • Minimum premiums (manual, unmodified, undiscounted)
    Contractors $6,500
    Truckers $10,000
    All Others $2,000
  • Maximum premium $135,000
  • Maximum Experience Mod <1.79* Subject to underwriting

  • Start-up operations with less than 2 years of background and experience
  • Class or premium shown on application is inconsistent with rating data sheet
  • Unfavorable loss experience
  • Answers to the general information questions are not acceptable
