Young Agents Committee

MAIA’s Young Agent Committee seeks to bring together the newest generation of insurance professionals. Our goals include networking, recruiting new people to the industry and becoming further involved in the works of the Association.
Who is a Young Agent?
Young Agents are members of the Massachusetts Association of Insurance Agents (MAIA) who have worked in the insurance industry less than FIVE years or who are 40 years of age or younger. A "young agent" does not have to be a licensed producer. The committee shall consist of no more than 20 members including a chairperson, co-chair, and past chair. Insurance company representatives are eligible for membership on the committee, but may not serve as Chairperson. LEARN MORE...

Why Should I get Involved?
- Meet other Young Agents who are working and living with same issues, concerns and goals that you have.
- Build friendships and network within the industry.
- Meet, network, and build relationships with company folks and vendors.
- Gain a better understanding of, and work with, your state association.
- Become informed in all aspects of your profession and build your resume.
- Become politically engaged at a state and national level.
- Become an industry advocate and encourage other young people to become an insurance professional.
Getting Active
If you are working in the insurance industry in Massachusetts, are under 40 (or have less than 5 years of experience) and are a member of MAIA…then you are a Young Agent. No additional fees, forms or registrations. All you have to do is become an active YAC…and that’s easy….
First and foremost, stay up to date on committee activities through email, Facebook and LinkedIn and attend the YAC Events. Most events are free of charge and are great opportunities to network with other young agents and company folks. Check out pictures of our Past Events. Make sure you are on our YAC mailing list – email Melissa Murphy.
Become a Committee Member
Each year MAIA's Young Agent Committee seeks new committee members to join in the planning and direction of the group. Committee members work together and in conjunction with the MAIA staff and company sponsors to create, plan and participate in Young Agent focused events. Many of the events we have had (after-hours networking, golf tournament) have been ideas brought by committee members. Participation as a committee member requires attendance at planning meetings and YAC Events. Committee members are also encouraged to take part in state and national conferences.
Committee Members must be eligible Young Agents. Potential Committee Members will be asked to provide a resume or access to a relevant and updated LinkedIn account, and undergo an interview with a current committee member before being appointed. Newly appointed Committee Members must commit to, at minimum, a one year term and will be asked to sign a Commitment Statement detailing the level of involvement that is expected.
